Julia Joes - Discovering about Myself through Art

Julia has been a great supporter of Mama on Palette. You've seen her in lots of our community events, advocating for charity and social impact; but do you know how strong a mother she is? And what's the story behind all her abstractive, expressive and colorful artworks? Let's visit Julia's world of art.

I am an Indonesian-born abstract artist based in Singapore. Art has always been my true passion and painting is a form of self-expression that brings me immense joy. Alongside my artistic endeavors, I hold the position of Regional Head of Marine, Asia at Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance. As a proud mother of grown twins and being a single parent, I find solace and inspiration in creating abstract art.

Painting has been a part of my life since I was young, and I am primarily a self-taught artist. Acrylic and alcohol ink are my preferred mediums to bring my artistic visions to life.

What truly motivates me is the desire to create a positive impact in society, which has inspired me to utilize my talents for charitable endeavors, supporting meaningful causes through my artwork.

Art is an integral part of my life

I love art. It allows me to express myself in a way that words cannot capture. It is a powerful language that communicates emotions, thoughts, and ideas beyond barriers, connecting with people on a deep and meaningful level. I find great satisfaction in creating unique and captivating compositions that evoke emotions and spark curiosity.

Art also provides me with a sanctuary for self-discovery and expression. It is a space where I can freely explore my imagination, push boundaries, and experiment with different techniques and mediums. This creative process gives me a sense of fulfilment and purpose, motivating me to continuously evolve and improve as an artist.

Last but not least, Art serves as a source of solace and rejuvenation for me. It provides a meditative escape where I can find peace amidst life’s demands. As a single mother and professional, art enables me to reconnect with myself and find balance.

Overall, as an abstract artist and a mother, art has become an essential part of my life, providing me with purpose, joy and fulfilment.

Art, motherhood, social impact

Art benefits me as a mother in many ways. It provides me with a creative outlet to express my thoughts and emotions, helping me to manage stress and anxiety. As a busy mother and professional, creating art gives me a chance to slow down and reflect, fostering a sense of mindfulness and peace.

My involvement in charitable art initiatives has allowed me to teach my children the importance of giving back to society and using one’s talents to make a positive impact.

Art has truly enhanced my journey as a mother by providing a means for self-expression, stress reduction, and personal fulfilment. In the meantime, it empowers me to impart essential life lessons to my children, cultivating their understanding of empathy and social responsibility.

Knowing that my artistic creations can touch hearts, challenge perceptions, and bring people together fuels my passion and dedication.

My biggest source of motivation comes from my desire to make a positive impact in society. I am driven by the belief that art has the power to inspire change, provoke conversations, and create a positive impact.

Knowing that my artistic creations can touch hearts, challenge perceptions, and bring people together fuels my passion and dedication.

In addition, being a mother has significantly influenced my motivation. I want to be a role model for my children, demonstrating the importance of following one’s dreams and pursuing personal fulfilment.

The support and encouragement I receive from my children, friends and the artistic community play a vital role in motivating me to continue pushing the boundaries of my artistic journey.

Their belief in my abilities and the impact of my art provides a constant source of motivation and fuels my determination to keep creating and making a difference.
